Can a camera -phone be any good?

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge : Decent phone & excellent camera.

First a confession. Previously I have never really used the camera facility on any of my android Samsung smart phones.

However I recently to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and when I took the trouble to read some online reviews all commented on the quality of the S7’s camera which consists of a f1.7 lens in front of a 12mp dual pixel sensor.

Then I realised the phone allows RAW capture via DNG format and my attention was drawn.

So I’ve actually taken some “snaps”with the S7 Edge and I am impressed.

So in the real world can the camera module in the S7 Edge replace a “proper / real” camera ” ? Well the answer is YES in quite a few circumstances. Using free apps one can truly get very acceptable results and here’s some 2 examples to prove it.

Its no wonder the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge won an EISA award recently.

Fuji X70 goes to Greece

Last month I spent 3 weeks on the North-East Aegean Island of Lemnos (sometimes written as Limnos) but what cmamera gear to take? Well I decided to travel light so I took my Olympus OM-D EM5II and four “Pro” lenses ( 3 zooms and one fisheye prime) but I also packed my Fuji X70 compact and newly purchased 21mm wide lens adaptor.

So could I have got away with simply the Fuji X70? Probably not but the Fuji X70 performed very well and although both the 28mm & 21mm focal lengths I had to hand at times proved a bit limiting such limitation did force a more creative / thoughtful approach to my photography.

Here’s some Pics:

This weekend  treated myself to an Olympus MZuiko 60mm F2.8 ED Macro lens. Not only was it being offered with £75 cash back but I have read quite a few reviews and all have been hugely positive, so lacking a macro lens in my Micro Four Third (MFT – m4/3) arsenal I bought one. First impressions have lived up to expectation it can certainly deliver the goods and in a package that as with all MFT optics is small and light.
